This is to confirm the arrangements upon which we agreed as regards the provision in the Colonial und Middle Eastern services satimates 1948-49 (Supplementary) and 1949–50 for North Borneo and Hong Kong.
North someo.
in 1948-49 provision of £100,000 should be made for the grant on account of reconstruction and rehabilitation in place of the 2500,000 provisionally inserted, while in 1949-50 the provision should be reduced from £600,000 to 2500,000.
Hong Kong
In 1948-49 token provision of 410 should stand, but in 1949-50 the grant to the University should be reduced from £250,000 to £150,000 while the assistance towards the goat of construction of the airport should be delâted in the absence of information when # work will carence or details as to probable expenditu this year, If, during the course of the year, the work can get started and Hong Kong needs funds, you agreed that the question of presenting a Supplementary astimate in the spring of 1550 would be considered, and also that, if necessary, arrangements might be possible to secure the funds required before tho Jupplementary satimute became available by means of a Civil Contingencies advance which would be
